Lancelot Griffiths was born on November 27, 1954 in Kingston, Jamaica, to the late Luther and Sepheline Griffiths. He was the youngest of his four siblings. He was raised in a household full of love and determination, where "family values" were not only talked about but were the order of the day. He lived a cheerful and active childhood; and, at an early age had mastered the art of reproducing animate, and inanimate images on any paintable surface in true to life form. He attended Central Branch Elementary School; and, Gainstead High School, where he exhibited particular interest in the field of drafting. He was eventually employed as a draftsman in the government services upon graduation.
In an effort to broaden his horizon, and embrace other opportunities, Lance migrated to the United States in 1974. Not only did he continue his tenue in allied architectual fields, but he also exercised his multiple skills and proficiencies in various other disciplines.
Lance soon realized that the extended periods of "un-tropical" weather was not something he could grow accustom to without his beloved Mavis, his childhood sweetheart, by his side. He soon convinced her to join him here. Thirty-seven years and two children later, he still referred to her as his "rock" and confidant.
Despite the various challenges that overshadowed aspects of his life in later years, Lance still managed to remain embedded in the minds and interests of his friends and associates.
Lance never lost his sense of humor; and, his giving and caring nature remained intact to the very end. He never failed to inquire about the welfare of his relatives and friends that he had not seen for a while. His quick wit and ready smile made it easy for everyone to feel welcome in his presence. Those enduring characteristics defined his personality.
Lance's failing health eventually took its toll; and, after a long and courageous battle, he finally succumbed on the morning of November 13, 2011.
Lance is survived by the love of his life, his rock, his wife, Mavis; sons, Steven and Andrew; grandchildren, Zenaya, Kayla, Stefan, and Gabriela; brother, Owen (Joe); sisters, Valdene, Loleta, Calmeta (Beth), and Blossom; brothers-in-law, Chester, Vincent, Leroy; daughter-in-law, Cynthia; nieces, Irene, Stacy, Renee, Erica, Melissa, Danielle, Dana, Dienna; nephews, Shevar, and David; and, numerous other relatives and friends.
Though he is gone he will never be forgotten.
